Our Founder's Story
My name is Laura Castore, and I've always believed that compassion has the power to change lives.
Throughout my life, I've dedicated myself to helping others—as a foster parent, holistic wellness practitioner, ordained minister, and advocate for those facing difficult times.
When I experienced one of the hardest chapters of my own life, I also experienced the heartbreaking loss of my beloved pets. Despite searching for help, there was no safe, temporary place for them while I worked to rebuild my life. That loss changed me forever.
It also gave me a purpose.
I founded Safe Place Pet & Family Network in loving memory of my three cherished companions and for every family who deserves the chance to overcome hardship without losing a beloved companion. My hope is that no one else will ever have to face the same heartbreaking choice that I did.
A personal mission
Safe Place Pet & Family Network was created from my own lived experience. During a difficult period, I lost my pets simply because there was no safe, temporary place for them while I rebuilt my life. That experience opened my eyes to a nationwide crisis: overwhelmed shelters, families with nowhere to turn, and beloved animals at risk during times when people need support the most.
Our vision for families and pets
I founded this nonprofit to ensure no one else has to face that heartbreak. Our mission is to provide loving, temporary care for pets so families can focus on safety, healing, and stability — without losing or placing their companions in a unstable, unsafe environment. We aim to offer a safe place for pets while families deal with crises, ensuring a healthy and happy return home for everyone.
